Candle Care
We treasure our candles like we treasure the memories they evoke. Learn how to care for your candles for the longest, best burn, & the maximum memory experience.
Full Melt Pool
Wax has a memory, so every time you burn a candle, the wax will remember the last time you burned it. Because of that memory, you should burn your candle until you have a "full melt pool."
A melt pool is the liquid (or melted) wax, and it should reach the edges of your container and be approximately 1/2" deep. Otherwise, you risk your wick "tunneling" and wasting a majority of the candle wax. A full melt pool usually takes approximately 3-4 hours for our candles.
Wick Trimming
Trimming your wicks may seem like a superfluous, unnecessary step, but it's actually quite important for the burn time of your candles. When your wick is too long, it creates a larger flame that can cause two major things:
1. The wax melts & burns much more quickly.
2. The wick will start to smoke and release soot into the air and onto the sides of your container.
Your wick should be trimmed to 1/4" prior to lighting. This will optimize the flame size to create a perfect melt pool.
If you are looking for a wick trimmer, take a look at our Candle Care Kit!
Wax Appearance After Burning
After burning your candle, you may find that your wax has a pockmarked or bumpy appearance once it cools. This is completely normal and is a sign that the wax is all-natural rather than having synthetic additives, which help to keep a smooth appearance.
While it may not be the most attractive-looking, we encourage you to embrace it knowing that you're keeping synthetics from leaching into your body and into the environment.
Responsible Disposal
We at Bjorn care about our environment and how we contribute to its health as individuals and a company. That's why we prioritize using materials that are eco-friendly & toxin-free. All materials used except for the wick sticker* are eco-friendly and toxin-free.
When you have enjoyed your candle to its fullest extent, we ask that you pop off the wick sticker into the regular trash (a metal spoon works well) and then dispose of all other materials into their proper bin(s).
To best equip you to responsibly dispose of our candles, here is a list of the materials used:
1. Ceramic containers for our 10oz candles (typically not recyclable but can be re-purposed and are biodegradable).
2. Tin containers for our flight candles (recyclable).
3. 100% natural coconut soy wax blend (recyclable & compostable).
4. 100% cotton wicks with steel metal tabs (recyclable).
5. Tree-free, unbleached sugarcane paper stickers with compostable adhesive (recyclable & compostable).
If you have any questions about the materials we use, please let us know. We want to provide as much information as possible so you are enabled to responsibly dispose of our candles in your area.
*In case you're wondering, the wick sticker is the adhesive attaching the wick to the bottom of the container. We're still on the hunt for eco-friendly wick stickers. Rest assured, we will switch to those as soon as we find them!
Matte Refreshment
If you've ever used something with a matte appearance, you may know that it can lose that pristine, dappled appearance because of grease or oils on hands & fingertips. We recommend keeping the "man-handling" of your Bjorn candles to a minimum. However, if you find grease spots on the outside of your container, you can refresh its appearance by running a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol over it and/or drying it with a cloth made to clean eyeglasses.
